"Well...How did I get here?"
'Once in a Lifetime' - TALKING HEADS

CULTURE TECHNOLOGY HUMANITY

During a fluctuating and varied career journey, the ideas and output that represent the Zeitwarp concept continued to develop in an inverse relationship with any definition of a conventional vocation.

Eventually, it took over completely.

This was probably always going to happen.

“I think ageing is an extraordinary process whereby you become the person you always should have been."

DAVID BOWIE

“My career's slowed down a little lately."

THE BIG LEBOWSKI

My name is Dan Quill. I initially set up Zeitwarp as an outlet for my own multi-disciplinary creative practice:

'Art, Music & all that other Mother Jazz...' etc.

Since then it's evolved to become an independent ‘cultural hack node’ - combining output from the creative studio with a broad mission to support grassroots culture and a platform of public speaking, mentoring and educational workshopping.

ART SCHOOL

"Anything that you want to do, anyplace that you want to go
Don't need permission for everything that you want"

'Art School'- THE JAM

Given the lack of any kind of formal art training, everything that I produce would normally be categorised as ‘outsider art’ or perhaps more accurately “art brut” (raw art) by the art establishment.

I prefer the term ‘Garage Art’.

GARAGE ART ?

"We're a Garage Band...We come from Garageland "

'Garageland'- THE CLASH

The Clash were responding lyrically to being critically dismissed for lacking formal music technique in an NME review by Charles Shaar Murray.

Similarly, ‘Garage Art’ perhaps captures the essence of being outside of a formal art establishment that values three years of art school over three decades of thinking about the nature of existence in an aesthetic sensory fashion.

BY WAY OF EXPLANATION...

NEVER EXPLAIN

Work is released in distinct thematic conceptual series with a consistent aesthetic. Individual works touch multiple nodes, straddling the threshold between physical, digital and immersive forms.

The conceptual themes are technology, transience, significance, obsolescence and transformation, and their reverberative effects on culture, society, politics and climate - both individually and collectively.

SOUND & VISION

PHREAK MUSIC

Music - and in particular the technology, culture and economy of music - is often the motif to communicate these concepts.

Sound itself is also a key element of the process.

'Feedback Loops' is a series experimental recursive transformations across the audio/visual threshold resulting in the MUSIC GRAFFITI paintings and their subsequent remixes into FRACTAL GROOVES, GLITCH BREAKS, etc.

FOR THE CULTURE

The original vision for Zeitwarp was to operate it as an outlet for my own creative practice, but this evolved into a broader agenda to engage and directly assist the next generation of creatives.

In the 2020’s this has expanded further to include public speaking, mentoring and educational workshopping - alongside the work with The Caymana as a direct support vehicle.
